Inspiration - White Cottage, Australia

Inspiration

Chalky painted whites, the odd piece of rustic wood, mixed with touches of old brass and glass.
I love this simple cottage in Queensland, Australis for its simplicity.

Inspiration: Tiles

Inspiration

I love tiles, they can really give a space some serious character.  They work especially
well as a mixed matched collection of similiar colours/patterns or as a textured unpatterned group of one colour hue.

Bathroom - the simple brass taps and shower heads work beautifully against these tiles
A splash of one colour with lots of texture

 Large scale patterns give impact

Something different with tiles

Inspiration: Stone walls & Green Glass

Inspiration

I'm loving this house in Mallorca that I came across on House Idea blog.

I love the stone walls combined with white washand the different combinations of floor surfaces throughout the house - stone tiles, smooth cement, heavy stones & small pebbles inlaid.

I also LOVE the bottle green vases on the steps below - a flash of colour in a neutral background always works well.

I like the built in shelving (can do this in cemcrete) combined with the pebbles inlaid floor and smooth cement

 Nice stripey bed throw

The partition wall works well in separating the sinks from the bedroom

Love this look for a beachy bathroom

Inspiration: William Klein exhibition at Tate Modern

Inspiration

I went to see the William Klein and Daido Moriyama exhibition showing at the Tate Modern, London last week when I was in the city.  I love the Tate Modern, it was buzzing with people as usual, and you just cant beat the exhibitions they put on - you really feel like you are soaking up London's culture.

Both William Klein and Daido Moriyama are known for their 'quick shot' style street photography.  I was particularly inspired by William Klein's last scale mixed media photography art pieces below.  They spanned the walls of the gallery space and in them he revisited his old contact sheets and boldly painted on them in an editorial style fashion.

I really liked the contrast of the reality of the black and white photography with the almost naive brushstrokes in primary colours.  They would look amazing in a white industrial style house with graphic black and whites.

Go and see it for yourself!

Inspiration: Abigail Ahern

Inspiration

I have been in London for the festive season and have been looking at great interior designers living and working here.  I particularly love the style and savyness of my namesake, Abigail Ahern.

I really like her strong dark backgrounds (she always paints the ceilings the same colour as the walls and often in dark hues), quirky lights and textured accessories and fabrics.
