Guest cottage interiors

I have just been in Hermanus this weekend working on some finishing touches of a small cottage that the UK owners are going to be renting out...it was quite a challenge as the space is small but I love the end look and I am definitely going to be recommending it to my friends heading to the coast....

Beaded bedthrows, nguni rug, handmade furniture...Im going to be framing some fun pics Ive got of malawi kids on a beach and putting them behind the sofa

All the crochet cushions and the sofa above which I love are available through SOUL shop (abi@souldesign.co.za)

There is a swimming pool and gorgeous garden - I put funky bright cushions and sarongs on the sunloungers I chose.  The cushions are made form Nigerian asoka cloth I sourced in Kenya and the kikoys are also from kenya - all available to order through SOUL shop (abi@souldesign.co.za).

If you are interested in renting the cottage, email Sue Stone at suestone1@mac.com.

Graffiti love

love these images of 'natural' graffiti - what a beautiful way of making statement, be it one that will disappear with time and decay.
Inspiration inspiration.....

These images are made by someone scrubbing clean patterns and designs from a city wall

Zambian Lodge design images...

I have just come back form a month in Zambia where I was working on the designs and spaces for a full interiors refurbishment of Kanyemba Lodge, Lower Zambezi (www.kanyemba.com).  Such a great location on the river with hippos and ellies in constant sight and yummy Italian food.
Below are some photos of some of the finished spaces....the entire lodge will be totally finished in 6 weeks time - all new handmade furniture, gorgeous fabrics, funky art pieces, scrumptiously soft and comfy bedlinen....

The bedrooms before......

Voila!

Handmade bedside lamps and shades (banana string and sisal) and fallen fig tree discs displayed on the wall.  All the furniture was designed by us and then made in Kanyemba's carpentry workshop.

linen mosi net ties, handbeaded bedthrows (available through SOUL shop) and locally made grass mat woven together with maize sack material.

Old dugout canoe wall art pieces I carved and painted, painted malawi wicker chairs and handcarved stools and vases

Another bedroom's wall art piece with woven palm string designs - each bedroom has its own style of funky wall art

View of the dining area with new woven chairs and art pieces - we are still adding in a new buffet table and some framed photographs by local wildlife photographer, Patrick Bentley (www.patrickbentley.com).

A collection of wall art pieces I did using old dugout canoe wood and carving/painting designs into them

Before they were cut fallen fig tree discs....then they became a cool large wall art piece for one of the walls in the dining area

Close up - love the textures and light colour of the fig tree

A corner of framed Patrick Bentley images, such beautiful pics.

Sam the man... head carpenter at Kanyemba's carpentry workshop, oversaw all the new furniture designs happening, very talented.  In front of a linen, leather and banana string art piece in the corner of the dining area.

Here I am making an art piece - have to be creative when small paintbrushes aren't around!

Kiddie's room - I painted an Africa map with Zambia in red

The bright cushions and rugs are handwoven gorgeous materials from Madagasca.  The hessian and embroidered animal cushions on the beds (right image) are available through SOUL shop in all the bush animals.

The natural "interiors" of Kanyemba - the view from the camp of the Lower Zambezi river - amazing.
